Isha Ambani’s Wedding Trousseau - Simplicity Meets Elegant Luxury

There are perks to being rich and there are perks to being the daughter of one of the richest men in the world! Welcome to the wedding trousseau of Isha Ambani – the loved daughter of Mukesh Ambani, which like Isha was simple and understated, yet extremely exquisite and regal. Isha is not someone who has ever been sporting loud colours and garish designs. This was something that visible throughout her trousseau – not only did she choose a lighter colour palette for all her outfits, she chose to keep her makeup and accessories on the lighter side too.

While the background of Lake Como, Italy was stunning, it was Isha Ambani who looked even better – dressed in a nude-beige Dolce and Gabbana lace gown, Isha looked spectacular! The customised gown had intricate floral patterns embroidered on and the sleeves also had fine lace details. The embroidery was done using dull green, sky blue and nude.

For the Grihashanti pooja, Isha decided to go with a stunning Sabyasachi lehenga, which was not just hand painted, but also hand embroidered with tilla work. She chose to team it with an antique bandhej dupatta, which was an interesting choice given that, all her pre-wedding ceremonies were to be held in Rajasthan.

Being true blue Gujaratis, the Ambanis hosted a lavish dandiya night and for that, Isha chose a colourful, princess inspired lehenga choli, designed by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. The intricate thread work and embroidery ensured that the outfit had a rich look, which is perhaps why Isha chose to keep her accessories and makeup quite simple.

The pre-wedding ceremonies also included a maha aarti and a sangeet, and for this Isha went with her family favourite designer, Manish Malhotra, who gave her a gorgeous bright pink lehenga choli in an A-line silhouette. The lehenga as well as the choli were embellished with Swaroski crystals as was the matching pink dupatta.

The fact that Isha is someone who is extremely close to her family and completely rooted in traditions was proven by the fact that she chose an ivory lehenga choli for the wedding ceremony. For Gujaratis, wearing a shade of white for the wedding is customary and Isha was not one to stray from the customs. What was truly heartening to see was that she used her mother’s red wedding saree as the dupatta! The exquisite diamond studded wedding outfit was created by legendary Indian designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.

From the girl next door to the biggest star in the celebrity sky - Priyanka Chopra

In the year 2000, when an 18 year old Priyanka Chopra won the Miss World title, little did people know what she was going to achieve in the years to come. Stepping into Bollywood seemed like the obvious choice and that is what she did, but with her talent, good looks and an incredible amount of hard work, Priyanka soon emerged as a force to reckon with, in the Indian movie industry. She was not scared to take on any types of roles and was willing to go the extra distance to bring a sense of realism to every character she portrayed.

However, her talent was not one that would be limited to the borders of India and very soon, she become a household name in the international entertainment world too. By landing the lead role of Alex Parrish in the American television show, Quantico, Priyanka made her first foray into the global entertainment industry and soon she was to share screen space with the likes of Dwyane Johnson and Zac Efron in the movie Baywatch.

But little did Priyanka herself know that with all this fame would come the much elusive love into her life. Little did she know that a whirlwind romance awaited her in the form of Disney star and musical prodigy Nick Jonas. Although Nick knew from the very minute he met her in person that this was the woman for him, Priyanka took a little more time, but she was soon to be swept off her feet by the charming Nick and within a few months of courtship, they were both ready to say I do to each other.

The big fat Indian style wedding was held in Udaipur, and the three ceremonies had Priyanka looking like the true blushing bride. Her wedding was the talk of the town and people were a lot more interested in how she looked and what she wore.

For her mehendi, she chose to wear a vibrant outfit, created especially for her by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. The flared outfit had shades of yellow, pink and green and was the perfect choice for a simple, yet stunning look for the mehendi ceremony.

Next to follow was the Christian ceremony, for which Priyanka chose to look every bit the Christian bride. Dressed in a stunning white gown, it was her veil that stole the spotlight – the 75 foot long train looking incredible. The wedding gown was created in about 1900 hours by the designers at Ralph Lauren. The sheer gown had long sleeves and had floral and scroll motifs all over them, along with about 24,00,000 mother of pearl sequins.

The next ceremony to follow was a traditional Indian wedding, for which, yet again Priyanka chose to go traditional. This intricately designed crimson red outfit was created by renowned Indian designer Sabyasachi. The lehenga had hand cut organza flowers and Siam red crystals and took the efforts of 110 embroiders, who spent close to 3700 hours to complete this creation.

Next on the itinerary was the Delhi reception, where Priyanka chose to wear a champagne coloured lehenga choli with an intricate net dupatta. This outfit was created by Falguni Shane Peacock, and had intricate embroidery and beading work. The short choli was covered with elaborate embroidery, which is perhaps why the dupatta was kept on the lighter side.

The Style And Glamour Of Celebrity Weddings – The Ladies – Anushka Sharma

There are actresses and there are ladies who rule the roost when it comes to the Bollywood movie industry. In the recent few months, the world saw two of them getting married and one getting engaged, all set to tie the knot. While Anushka Sharma and Deepika Padukone have already become ‘missus’, Priyanka Chopra is on her way there. Each of these ladies is known to be powerhouse performers and they have carved a niche for themselves in the industry. It has been no surprise that these three ladies chose men who are just are reputed and forces to reckon with in their own domains. So, it was only natural that their weddings were much talked about, as were the looks they chose to sport.

In a series of write-ups, we are going to take a closer look at the ‘looks’ that these divas sported for their life changing moments, starting with the lovely Anushka Sharma:

Anushka Sharma got married to cricketer and current captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli in a fairy tale like wedding ceremony, held in Italy. All the festivities happened there only, starting with a mehendi ceremony.

For her mehendi, Anushka wanted something that was bright and fun, so renowned designer Sabyasachi designed this yellow, blue and pink outfit for the bride to be. The full length, A line skirt allowed Anushka to dance and twirl, while the short sleeves of the top, allowed for her arms to be covered in mehendi.

Keeping in mind the fairy tale like theme of the wedding, Sabyasachi chose a baby pink for her lehenga, and draped in the lehenga, Anushka looked like a fairy tale princess! The entire lehenga choli was covered with delicate embroidery in shades of pink, green and gold. The delicate net dupatta had similar embroidery, but managed to maintain that ethereal look.

Anushka had two receptions – one in Delhi and one in Mumbai and for both, she sported extremely different looks.

For the Delhi reception, she was every bit the traditional Indian bride, decked up in a red and gold Banarasi saree, created by designer Sabyasachi. The saree had traditional motifs and a heavy gold pallu. The red blouse which had a conservative sleeve, was glamourized by embroidery work and embellishment on the edges.

However, her avatar for the Mumbai reception, she was every bit the Bollywood diva that she truly is! In a pale gold full length skirt, which had work all over, she looked stunning – the sleeveless top was covered on one side with a dupatta, which was tucked into a belt.

The Style And Glamour Of Celebrity Weddings – The Ladies – Deepika Padukone

Continuing the series on our celebrity brides, we are now moving onto the absolutely gorgeous Deepika Padukone, who is the newest entrant into the world of matrimony. As someone who is extremely rooted in her traditions and family values, Deepika Padukone knew that she wanted all the traditions to be followed. So, before she would exchange her vows with fellow Bollywood celebrity Ranveer Singh, she chose to have a traditional pooja. For this pooja, she chose to look simple and wore an orange kurta with a cream coloured churidar. She matched the outfit with an orange coloured dupatta with a gold border and a small gold print all over.

Like her contemporary Anushka Sharma, Deepika also chose Italy as her wedding destination and kicked things off with a mehendi ceremony. The light pink of her outfit matched the rosy hue that the bride to be had on her face. The outfit had embroidery in the same colour, making the outfit look simple, yet elegant. The edges of the dupatta had a darker shade of pink, and Deepika chose to team it with a similar coloured woollen stole.

For another one of her pre-wedding ceremonies, Deepika chose to go with an off tissue saree in pale gold, over which she wore a dupatta of the same colour and material. She teamed the same with traditional kundan work jewellery and the jasmine garland on her hair bun, completed the south Indian look for her!

Because Deepika is from Karnataka, specifically the Konkan region of Karnataka and Ranveer comes from a Punjabi hertage, there were two types of weddings – one south Indian, and one north Indian. For her south Indian style wedding, Deepika was the quintessential south Indian bride, resplendent in a deep red Kancheepuram saree and designer Sabyasachi gave her a veil in tissue, which also had a gold brocade border. The traditional jewellery and the jasmine flowers on her hair made her look gorgeous!

For her Punjabi style wedding, she was yet again traditional, but this time she was a traditionally Punjabi bride. Yet again, she went with the most bridal colour, red, but this time, it was a deeper red. As is common for Punjabi brides, Deepika also chose to go with gota work, but what made her outfit truly coutoure was the embroidery on her dupatta, which said ‘sada saubhagyavati bhava’ (a blessing of eternal matrimonial bliss). Her look was complete with the traditional red chooda and kaleerey.

And then there was the Bangalore reception, for which Deepika chose to dress up in a stunning pale gold silk saree, the pallu of which, she left long, almost like a train for a wedding dress. It was interesting to note that she chose a full sleeved blouse with the saree, which also had a slightly high neckline. She chose to add colour to the outfit with her red chooda and green emerald jewellery.

Staying Fashionable During The Winter Months Is Not Rocket Science

For a lot of people, winters means that time of the year, when your sole aim should be to wear layers of clothes and concentrate only on keeping warm. For them, this is that time of the year, when you need not be bothered about fashion, because the ultimate aim should be staying warm at all times. However, there is also that set of people, who consider fashion important, irrespective of the weather outside. It is for such people that winters often become a problematic time of the year, because many a times for them, fashion comes at the cost of falling ill.

What a lot of people do not realise is that staying fashionable even during the winter months is not all that tough – all you need is a little creative thinking and an open mind. As a matter of fact, with just a few new pieces in your wardrobe, you should be able to create multiple new looks for the winters and even rock at weddings or special events with ease.

Here is what you need to do first:

Look through your wardrobe and locate pieces that you can wear during the winters. This would include top wear that has long sleeves or has been made using material that will work well for the cold months. This could range from tops and tunics to kurtas, kurtis and shirts. You should look for thicker cotton, wool and denim like materials, because these are better are providing warmth and insulation for the body.

Step two would be to look at the lowers that you will be able to utilise for the winters – jeans would be the most obvious choice, but you can always look for trousers, leggings and even skirts. While most people would think that jeans, trousers and leggings are sensible choices, many would wonder about using skirts at this time of the year. However, if you are willing to experiment, you could always team your skirts with dark coloured tights or leggings and this will offer you style as well as comfort.

Now, here is what you will need to shop to make sure that your wardrobe is prepared for the winters:

The one thing that you will need to invest in would be some warm clothes, such as sweaters and jackets. Your creative eye and your style sense will come into play here, because you can look for smart jackets and sweaters that you will be able to mix and match with your existing outfits. Choose jackets and sweaters in neutral colours, as these will work with more outfits. Black, navy blue, grey, beige and white will work great and you can also play with the lengths of the jackets.

You will need to invest in some colourful and warm stoles, as these are a great way to keep warm and add style to the outfit. Stoles work really well with not just Indian style attires, but also jeans and trousers. As a matter of fact, if you are wearing a monochromatic outfit, a stole is a great way to add colour.

This is also a good time to invest in some good footwear such as boots – these days, you will be able to find boots of varying lengths, colours and heels. Choose ones that will work with the outfits you have and while you can play around with the heel length, make sure that you pick colours that you will be able to use more than once!

Sparkle Brighter Than Any Lights, This Diwali!

The moment the Navratri start, Indians know that the festive season for the year has arrived – you have to be dressed in stunning clothes all through the nine days of celebration and you really need to up your game for the last day or Dussehra. Once that is over, you are all set for Diwali, because this is perhaps the biggest celebration of the year (tradition wise)! This is the one time of the year, when you will clean out your home, make it shine and sparkle, make colourful rangolis outside your main door. This is also the time when you string up lights all over your home and make sure that every corner of the house is sparkling.

However, for a lot of people, this is the time when you meet with all your family members and friends – you enjoy feeding them sweets that you have made with a lot of love, you enjoy the never ending games of cards that you play through the night. And for several people, this is also the time when they can dress to the nines and make memories for a lifetime. When it comes to dressing up, most people will go back to what they know and are familiar with. So, while most women will go back to the traditional silk sarees, most men will go back to the same old kurta pyjama. The reason why this happened was because till recently, there were not a lot of options when it came to traditional wear. Women could choose between sarees and salwar kameez and men could wear a kurta either with a dhoti or a pyjama.

Thankfully, today, we live in a world where fashion has become front and forward and getting your hands on clothes that are trendy has become a lot easier. With a growing interest in fashion, there also arrived a steady crop of fashion designers – while some of them were just average, there were some who rose above the others and established a name for themselves. But the problem was that the clothes designed by these established designers was not accessible to the common person – either they couldn’t get a hold of it in their small towns, or they could not afford the same. This was the revolutionary concept of online shopping emerged and this one seemingly small idea was going to change the world forever.

How The Humble Kurtas Can Give Your Wardrobe A Facelift!

There are a few pieces that you need to have in your wardrobe, because these are clothes that you will be able to mix and match with several choices and create brand new looks, each time. For instance, take the humble kurta – while it might seem like a simple dress, these days, you can find so many different prints and patterns that every kurta you pick up at your local store or online shopping portal, will be different from the other. However, did you know that with just a handful of different kurtas, you could create so many different looks!

  • Let’s say you pair a long kurta with leggings, you have an outfit that would be perfect for office or even a day with your friends. You could wear matching or even contrasting coloured leggings to create different looks. What is great about leggings is that you need not wear a dupatta, but you can always add accessories. Wearing makeup could really highlight your outfit for a special evening out.
  • When you team a short kurta with a Patiala salwar, you have a truly ethnic outfit, perfect for any special occasion such as a pooja or a wedding pre-ceremony. When you team a heavy embroidery kurta with a salwar and team it with a work dupatta, you have an outfit fit for any special event.
  • Let’s say you want a casual fun look that you can wear to college or you can wear when you are running around trying to complete all your errands, why not pair a short kurta with a pair of jeans. If you own a pair of distressed or ripped jeans, then a short kurta would work really well, but you can also wear a long kurta with jeans. Short anarkali or flared kurtas work beautifully with slim-fit jeans. You could also try similar looks with trousers, especially
  • For that fun, flirty and truly comfortable look, you could team a short or knee-length kurta with a skirt. What is great about mixing and matching kurtas with skirts is that there are so many options – you can play with the length of the skirts and the kurtas, you can play with the prints, mixing plain kurtas with printed skirts or the other way around.
  • During the summer days, there could be no better wardrobe choice than teaming a cotton kurta with a pair of palazzos. Yet again, you will have multiple choices, because you can team short and long kurtas, sleeveless and sleeved kurtas with palazzos. In addition, you can choose from a range of materials for your palazzos, as well as solid colours, prints and patterns.
If you are someone who always feels that your wardrobe is so limited, you just need to open up your mind to the possibilities and get creative!
